Love It and Hate It

I will admit, I am part of the problem. I am not at a place where digital art is my strong point. I have made images for my blogs for years. I just recently found blogs that I wrote back in 2011 and earlier. I have always been a blogger. I have always dabbled in digital art for the sake of my blog.

When I started blogging again this year I noticed that WordPress has added an AI photo creator option for posts. It is amazing and I love it so much, I will not lie. It has made things so much easier and quicker for blogging. I am now able to create images for my blog that don’t take all day to make. It is fantastic.

I have also been visiting some old sites that I have not been using and have found there are more AI features in a lot of sites. Sure, it’s fun! It is exciting to put in a few words and get an image that fits whatever mood or story I am trying to convey. I now see why there are so many artists who are not happy with this new invention. No one is buying stock images anymore. I found some sites that sell images, which are clearly AI-produced.

It takes away from the hours that an artist puts into a painting or the hours a graphic artist puts into their creations. It is scary to think that the one thing some people have used for income could be in danger.

I have also heard of authors using AI to write books! Which is insane to me! Not only using AI to write a book but using AI to create book covers. The artistic ability, the years spent perfecting their work, it feels like it is all going out the window. It feels like we have created a world where everything is just easier. But at what cost?

I paint for fun and I have a few ideas of things I would like to offer for purchase. I write for fun, but I dream of being a published author and making money off of the stories I have created. I make graphic art for fun and to use with my blog posts. Maybe AI is helping people do things they never thought they would be able to do. We are seeing things come to life that have been stuck in our heads.

I think AI is wonderful and amazing and if used the right way it could expand our lives. I fear though, that it will create a new generation of people who become lazy and uncreative. I fear it will kill the creativity that we have all worked so hard to develop. I feel like we have always been headed in this direction. We have the world at our fingertips. There are good and bad, pros and cons to everything. I want to protest against AI, but I love having easier images for my blog.

**Every image included in this post is generated.**

Do you think we will get to a point where no one buys art from artists anymore? Or will it increase the value of hand-created art? Will we be able to tell in a few years what was AI created and what wasn’t? It’s scary to think, but does it put us all on equal level playing ground? How do we really feel about the current AI situation?

  1. I like using my photos but surely the WordPress AI photo were pretty good for me as I could create a customized image for each piece I wrote, that was until they asked me to start paying for them. WordPress does not pay for using my materials which they even share with third parties. Why should I pay for their stuff?
    That’s where it stopped.
