Let’s Talk Books

Tell me, what books are you reading? What books have been your favorite so far this year?

Last time I updated on what I was reading I had 6 books going at once. I can say that I have cut that in half. I am now only reading 3 books at once. I am kind of proud of myself for cutting it down and resisting the urge to read a million books at once. I have different times that I read the books, so 3 is okay.

Empire of the Vampire by Jay Kristoff

This book is THICK! I have been reading it since the end of January. To be fair, I also put it down for a few weeks to finish the Cruel Prince series by Holly Black. I got obsessed with that one. Empire of the Vampire is really good and I love reading it. It’s just very dense and maybe I am a little dumb. I have been reading it super slow. I read it during my breaks at work and my poor little brain can’t focus on it when I get home from work and lay down. So I am reading like 20 or 30 pages a day. I read more on Fridays because I go to Cracker Barrel for breakfast just to have some reading time outside of work and at home.

Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire

To be honest, I have already read this book once. I read it back in 2013. I was following Jamie McGuire on Facebook when she was just a self-published author. She may have been the first person to change my mind about indie authors. I loved her work and this book I remembered being amazing. Evidently, it is being made into a movie and Dylan Sprouse plays the male lead role. I just wanted to read through the book again to refresh my memory and be ready for the movie. The book obviously has its problems. Bad boy Travis Maddox has some anger issues that have somehow become romanticized in the book and by its readers. I will admit to very much enjoying the story, but I see the red flags, I promise!

How the White Trash Zombie Got Her Groove Back by Diana Rowland

This is book 4 in the White Trash Zombie series. This is another book that I read back in 2017-2018. It is a book that has a special place in my heart. It was a rough time for me and this book was about the only thing I could get myself to read. I know what you are thinking, all the books on my shelf and I am rereading 2 books? Well, you know what, I really needed this. Actually, I have been thinking about the series a lot and wanted to read through it again. It’s a fabulous series and I feel like it’s really well written. It’s entertaining and keeps me hooked. Honestly, I love it. I don’t read a lot of Zombie books and I would recommend this book to anyone. It’s just fun. Although, if you get offended by cursing, I would steer clear of it. There are short spicy scenes that are more *fade to black* kind of scenes and that is something I can appreciate. In a world now obsessed with smutty books, it’s refreshing to have a book that can give a good story without the smut.

That is it. That is all I am reading at this time. It’s shocking to be reading so few books. I have plans for what I want to read next. My main focus right now is getting through Empire of the Vampire. I can’t wait to move on from that one.

  1. I don’t know how you can keep three books at a time straight. I am trying harder to read and review one book per month. The book I read last month was Consistent Creative Content, by Lee Hall. I enjoyed it and had several lightbulbs turn on regarding my own online presence.

Currently I’m reading The Wizard, by Bob Masingale. I’m not yet far enough into it to have an opinion, but to be fair to the author I’m still getting back into reading habits so it might take a bit to get into it.

    • I honestly have no idea how I keep up with reading so many books at once. Lucky for me they all are different enough that I can keep them separate, though that has not always been the case.

Keep reading, that is the important part!
