Top 3 Series

Happy hump day friends! You have made it halfway through the week and if you are one of the lucky few in the right kind of job, you have Friday off this week. This weekend I will be trying to paint my office with the long weekend. I am excited to see how it comes out.

I didn’t want to talk about what I am reading this week. I wanted to change it up and give you something different to read. If you are interested in what I am reading you are welcome to check out my Goodreads page.

I was listening to a podcast called Book Reviews Kill. I listen to it on Spotify, but it looks like you can listen to it on audible and other sites. I found their link tree connected to the podcast HERE. The episode I happened to listen to was talking about their top 3 favorite book series. I was able to come up with a few favorites, and cutting them down to 3 was so not cool! There really are so many series that I have loved over the years. My number 1 was easy. So to keep suspense I am going to start with…

The last series on my list happens to be one of my newest favorites and I am going to need you not to judge me for it, okay? I read a lot of Young Adult fantasy, it’s just always been my favorite genre. So number 3 is Crave by Tracy Wolff. Honestly, this feels to me what Twilight should have been. I know there are other things besides vampires in this series but, is Hudson not to die for?

Quick blurb: Grace is just a normal girl from California whose parents just died in an accident. The only family she has is an Uncle and a cousin who live in Alaska. Her uncle runs the “boarding school” type of high school, and things are just not as they seem.

These books came out so fast I didn’t have time to jump on the train before it started going. I had to take a running start and cross my fingers that the train would pick me up. The train didn’t pick me up, it jerked me up, giving me whiplash and a broken heart that was put together and pulled apart more than once. I love this series so much and I already want to re-read it again.

If you have not given the books yet because of the hype…I understand. I have the same issue. Please, for the love of all that is vampire, at least read the first book. Give it a chance. It has made my little fangirl heart happy.

This next series is an older one. Still in the YA category. I’m sure I need to expand my horizon and read more “adult” books, but isn’t reading all about reading what you love? I like fast reads and things that entertain me. This series was kind of a big deal when it came out. It is about time for me to read the series again.

The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer. I love a good fairytale retelling. Honestly, it is one of my favorite things to read. This series hit all the little dark corners of my heart that needed to be hit. There were love stories, tragic backstories, and happy endings. Also, I am not going to lie, the cover made me pick this one up in the first place. How gorgeous is that cover? The series has new covers now too, and they are just as gorgeous, but I am such a nerd for the original covers. I once heard that Marissa Meyer wrote this book during a NanoWriMo one year. I really hope it’s true.

Quick Blurb: Honestly…I am finding I need to re-read this series. I couldn’t come up with a good blurb for this one. The first book is a Cinderella retelling. Just go check it out. And don’t let the negative reviews on Goodreads keep you from checking it out.

Even through the series, the first of the series, Cinder, stayed my favorite. If there had been a little mermaid retelling in this series it would have been my favorite. Cinderella just so happens to be my second favorite princess.

Before I get to my number one, I would like to mention a few series that I have loved through the years that just didn’t make it onto this top 3 list. They deserve their small moment in the spotlight.

Everlife by Gena Showalter I absolutely loved this series while I was reading it. I can’t remember much now, it has been a long time since I read it.

The Folk of Air Series by Holly Black (Cruel Prince) I just finished this one and I will say, the first book made me almost put it down. The first book was a little slow. The last book was the best.

The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher Almost made it to the top, but it has been a while since I have read it and I need to re-read the whole series to remember what was going on.

The White Rabbit Chronicles by Gena Showalter Think Zombies that normal people can’t see. I loved this one and thought it was a nice change from the regular zombie stories.

White Trash Zombie by Diana Rowland Yes, another Zombie one, but also a kind of different story than the whole “Walking Dead” kind of zombie story.

Here we are at my number one favorite series. This has been so close to my heart for a while now. I’m sure you are thinking Harry Potter or Hobbit or something of that nature. I bet you haven’t even heard of this series, and if you have can we be best friends?

Number one is The Hollows series by Kim Harrison. I didn’t start reading this series until 10 years after the first book had been published and I think I read the second or third book in the series before I realized it was not the first of the series. I fell in love with the series instantly and I have already read the entire 15 book series more than once. The 16th book comes out sometime this year and I am so stoked that it is still going.

Quick Blurb: Rachel Morgan, a witch, has left the government-run job, she would have left without consequence but to her dismay, the company is upset that Ivy Tamewood decided to leave with her. She now has a bounty on her head. She also has a new business to run with Ivy Tamewood, a vampire, along with their Pixie friend, Jinx. Rachel has a plan to get herself out of trouble, but the one thing Rachel is good at is finding more trouble.

The series ended a few years ago, but Kim Harrison decided to bring it back and I could not be happier. The book that was supposed to be the last of the series had a nice little wrap-up on all the lives of the beloved characters, but having it back was like going back home after being away for far too long.

Have you read any of these? What are your favorite series? There are a few other series that I have read and loved but honestly didn’t want to boggle everyone down with all the series I have loved. I tend to love a lot of the books I read. I have a few on the sidelines that I want to read as well.
