Every Monday I would like to post a little update post about what contest I have entered, magazines I have sent stories to, and updates on working on novels and query letters. I have purchased the Writers Market book and have been through it and highlighted contests and magazines I am interested in. So far that is all I have done, but I am looking forward to getting more into that.
I will admit that I am a little nervous about writing to magazines and entering contests. I know as a writer one of the important things is to build a platform and have some things they can show to credit their writing skills. As much as I love sharing short stories on my own blog, I know that I am not getting enough traffic right now to use it as a reference. Sure, people in the publishing world can see what I have written, but without an audience how are they to know I have what it takes to sell books for them.
I have spent so many years writing and dreaming about being published. I never took it seriously enough to get there. I was just hoping for a miracle and suddenly become famous like Stephenie Meyer and J.K. Rowlings. I just come out of nowhere and take the world by storm. It’s not about the money or the fame, I just want people to read my stories and be added to their favorite authors’ list. Okay…so maybe it is about fame and money. I would love to be able to sit at my computer all day just pounding out stories, or polishing stories. Meeting deadlines and approving covers for my novels. I just want to be a part of that world.

Now that we have covered all of that, I am going to go do some work. By work, I mean scouring contests again and see what I can enter and when the dates are. It’s dream work! Fingers crossed that next week I can tell you what contests I have entered. Let’s do this!
